GEC's Service Territory Facility Connection Requirements |
Consumer Notice: Scam Alert! Glacier Electric Cooperative has recently received customer reports of a current phone scam in our service territory. If you receive a call claiming to be Glacier Electric Cooperative and feel pressured for immediate payment, hang up the phone and call the customer service number on your utility bill. Glacier Electric Cooperative has a standard protocol in place for all non-payment disconnects and does not threaten immediate shut off. We notify members in writing in advance prior to disconnection. We include a specific disconnect date and never disconnect on weekends. Always be cautious when asked for personal information or credit card numbers over the phone. The following tips will help prevent fraud.
• Glacier Electric Cooperative will never call, email, or show up at your home demanding payment and threatening immediate non-payment disconnection.
• Customers who are behind on bill payments will receive a written past-due notice prior to any actual disconnection. The notice will specify the disconnection date. We do not disconnect on weekends.
• Glacier Electric Cooperative sends hard copy bills in the mail. We do not email utility bills to our members. Members that have previously enrolled in our paperless bill option will be notified via email that their utility bill is available for viewing through Glacier Electric Cooperative’s online bill pay service at www.glacierelectric.com.
• Glacier Electric Cooperative will never call, email, or show up to your home requesting credit card numbers, banking information, or other personal information.
• Never provide personal information to anyone requesting it over the phone, via email, or in person unless you initiated the contact and feel confident with whom you are speaking.
• If you are unsure whether an email or phone call is legitimate, verify it by contacting the company directly.
• If you receive a suspicious phone call, hang up immediately and dial the customer service number on your utility bill for verification. Scams can be convincing-“spoofing” software allows scammers to falsely display the name and phone number of Glacier Electric on your caller ID.
• Don’t respond to unexpected email messages from senders you don’t know. A scam email may look very similar to one from a legitimate business. Don’t click on links or open attachments you don’t recognize.
• If a Glacier Electric Cooperative employee is performing work in your area, he or she will be driving a vehicle marked with the GEC logo.
• Always think safety first.
• If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
• Trust your instincts-if you think something isn’t right, do not respond or perform any action being requested.
